SPRING DISPLAY 28 January 2011
This year our display was attended by regular friends of KLSC, Don and
Fran Wright and by Ian (Ex Mayor of Kingston) and Heather McDonald.
Unfortunately, Jim Boucher, President of surrey county SA, and Mrs
Boucher were unable to attend at the last minute.
We had on excellent start with the senior team and brilliant use of pool
and synchronisation. A class act to follow but our young trio of Isobel
Elliott and twins Nadia and Yasemin Barakat did just that. A superb
performance from all three who ore obviously destined for greater
heights! Next we had the Aquafun team, youngest and newest of our
swimmers, with a great little routine and putting their all into it. The
'Professionals' come next, a brilliant duet from Harriet and Louise and a
solo from Francesca - they all positively ‘shone like stars' and not just
their costumes! Their week long attendance at the World Masters in
Sweden has definitely boosted their performances. Jovana and Kirsty
came next with a fabulous duet routine - very impressive - I look forward
to more of the some from these two girls. The first half ended with a
great display from the 13 and under and senior team. After a short
break for the swimmers we started again with the 13 and under teams and
then we had Lucy Whatley performing her solo, a very emotional display
from this forever-smiley young lady. The music was wonderful and she
looked really glam! Next come our trio of Grace, Isobel and Katie who did
a marvellous job and carried on regardless when problems arose with
their music. Well done girls, you all did remarkably well under the
circumstances - I'm very proud of you for carrying on. And so to the
junior team, fabulous stuff yet again. To bring the show to its close, the
World Masters Trio gave us their wonderful routine from Sweden and,
girls, it's lost none of its charm. It's difficult to find enough adjectives
to describe how good all of the performances were. Our guests Don and
Fran said it was the best show yet! I had great pleasure in assisting with
the presentation of the trophies - I had help too from Jessica Cole who
took the photos of our winners. My greatest pleasure of the evening was
to award the Silver Lifebuoy to Bridget even though she was away skiing!
The trophy was kindly accepted by Don Wright on her behalf. Thank you
to all of our coaches/teachers/poolside helpers and the rest of the
volunteers who all work so well to bring the show together - you all
contributed so much. All in all, a great evening to remember, yet again.
SPRING DISPLAY 30 January 2010
Attended by the Mayor of RBK and other guests, friends of Kingston Ladies.
Our display started with a hoops routine, the introduction of hoops adds another dimension to synchro. It was well performed by our Senior squad.
In the next routines the performance of the youngest swimmers was very cute, the winnie the pooh ears designed and made by Karen Hampton, were excellent, our youngsters were beautifully dressed with fabulous headdresses (made by Eileen), and considering their age their timing was good.
Duet with Grace and Isobel. This was a superb routine. The timing was remarkable considering this is a new routine and only made up recently.
As always Francesca performed an excellent solo, with her perfect synchro body, long, long legs together with her usual grace and elegance, her sharp and crisp routine was a joy to watch, sometimes she takes my breath away.
A fantastic closure to the first half of the programme. The youngest swimmers all kept in time with the more senior swimmers. Music all very tasteful.
The Mayor was impressed. Don and Fran remarked that this was the best show they had seen from Kingston Ladies, and Phyllis, too was impressed with our display and very pleased to be here. It was nice to have Michelle and Livy helping take care of our guests too.
The second half started with a lovely duet by Emily and Katie. This was performed publicly for the first time, I believe. They should do well in the future.
The ever smiling Lucy gave her best with her solo performance. her very first, It was noticeable how quiet the audience was when she swam her routine, always the mark of a good performer.
The two teams again swam really well, the improvements to timing is really noticeable. Everyone now seems to be concentrating on perfection with togetherness rather than over ambitious moves which may fail to be achieved.
Presentations all went well, Lily Whatley showing great surprise at achieving 4th place in the Swimmer of the year award. Well done to Francesca – Swimmer of the Year 2010. And my grateful thanks to the Hampton Family (nothing ever seems to be too much trouble, they all seem to find time to do a bit more for KLSC) and for this dedication and commitment throughout the year –I awarded them the “The Silver Lifebuoy”. A very pleasurable task for me to perform!
The Mayor showed much interest in our club, and advised the President how best to
• Apply for grants from the local council
• Apply to Mayor’s Office for sponsorship of a trophy
• Apply to the Mayors Office with information and photos of the performance today and he will endeavour to get some publicity for us
Well Done everybody. Special thanks to Pat Beech, Allison Tagg and Ann Roberts. You all helped to make this a rather special ‘Not the Christmas Show’ for me and I get the bouquet of flowers, too. Can’t be bad!! Here’s to next year.
